For many people, the holiday season brings out the best in us: a giving, peaceful spirit; but, for children whose families face severe financial hardship this month, the Christmas season is not quite as happy.

That’s why every year Primerica Home Office employees chip in to fulfill the Christmas wishes of some of the area’s needy children. This year, employees adopted 102 children from the Salvation Army Angel Tree. Through this program, children submit a “need” list and a “wish” list. Wish lists usually contain toy and bicycle requests while need lists often include clothes, shoes, socks and coats. This year, the adopted Angels received every item on their need lists and the majority of the children received each item on their wish lists!

Cheryl Romage, HR Specialist, said, “The Angel Tree program provides more than holiday gifts. It gives kids the sense that someone cares. By adopting these 102 Angels, Primerica employees have, once again, demonstrated their generosity and caring spirit.”

Each year, Primerica employees go out of their way to bring some cheer to Gwinnett County, GA, children. It’s part of the company’s commitment to do what’s right for families … our clients and our community.

Primerica has been a part of the American Cancer Society’s Gwinnett County Relay for Life – the largest in the world – fundraising and volunteer efforts for many years. The fight against cancer is a cause close to many of our employees’ and representatives’ hearts and we are proud to be able to support such an important cause.

Since 1997, Primerica has been responsible for more than $966,000 in funding for the American Cancer Society as well as providing large teams of volunteers during Relay for Life events. Now, we’re taking our involvement a step further by becoming Presenting Sponsors for the 2012 Relay for Life event, to be held at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds next May. Read the full story here.

If you’ve ever lived in Gwinnett County,Georgia, you’ve probably heard of Barbara King. She’s a long-time community servant and a retired Primerica legend. She was with Primerica leadership as they began this company, and managed to dedicate her whole self to the company, her family and her community … all at the same time!

This year, the prestigious United Way Women’s Legacy of Gwinnett will award King for her service with the first-ever Anna Shackelford Legacy Award. This award is given to honor her continued commitment to her community. During the ceremony, local philanthropists and volunteers are awarded for Time, Talent, Treasure and Legacy. King has certainly exhibited the volunteerism and dedication required for this honor.

She was certainly instrumental in developing Primerica’s TV network, publications department and Women in Primerica program (among countless other efforts), but her commitment has extended to many other organizations over the years, including:

• The Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services
• The Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education
• The Gwinnett Philharmonic
• The Georgia Council on Economic Education
• Gwinnett Technical College
• Annandale Village
• The Board of Advisors for Georgia Gwinnet College
• The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors and Executive Committees
• Georgia School Board of Education
• Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau
• New York City YWCA Academy of Woman Achievers

In essence, as Women’s Legacy Leadership Council Member, Carole Boyce, said, “There is nothing that epitomizes the word ‘Legacy’ more so than Barbara King.”
