Would you like to have $1 million saved for retirement? Start saving now! For every year you put it off, you pay the high cost of waiting.
If you start saving $95 each month at age 20, you could have one million dollars at age 65. But, if you wait until age 30 to start, you’ll have to put away $263 each month.
Wait 10 more years and start at age 40, you’ll have to save $754 each month. Get started at age 50, and you’ll have to save $2,413 each month. That’s 25 times more per month than if you’d started at age 20 – ouch!
Because of the power of compound interest, the sooner you start to save, the less you’ll have to put away to meet your goal. Don’t pay the high cost of waiting – start saving for retirement today!
This is a hypothetical and does not represent an actual investment. Assumes annual end-of-year contributions, with a 10% nominal rate of return, compounded monthly. This example uses a constant rate of return, unlike actual investments which will fluctuate in value. It does not include fees and taxes, which would lower results.
René Turner of Atlanta, GA, believes that you can control the future. In fact, she’s dedicated her life to showing families exactly how it’s possible. “I think one of the best things about Primerica is that we can show any family that if they are not happy with where they are financially, there’s a way to make some decisions right away that will change the course of their situation … and their futures.”
Getting Started While parenting a young, active daughter, René took on the lead role in their Primerica business when her husband Mel was called to the ministry. Charged to create an income that would replace her engineering salary, René wanted to be able to build a business without missing out on important milestones as her daughter grew. She decided to go for it with the understanding that every step she took from that point forth would determine whether or not her children would have the options she never had – and the ability to actually enjoy all that they worked so hard for.
Reinvention As her family added another daughter, her resolve became even more sure: she had to create an atmosphere of success for her family. As her business grew, she found that the support she had at Primerica made it possible to do more than she thought she was capable of. The initial fear that she felt, she says, came from a lack of belief. That’s not a problem anymore. She’s reinvented herself as a courageous, successful entrepreneur. She said, “When I realized that Primerica had given me every possible tool I needed to learn, grow and succeed, that’s just what I did.”
Her goals changed, too. What was once just about making some changes for her family became about impacting the lives of others, as well. With her oldest daughter now a licensed Primerica representative, René said that they have created a family business based on a culture – an entrepreneurial culture that shaped the way her daughters look at the world. Together, they have the freedom to be citizens who actively contribute to make the world a better place. “Now, I make the decisions about what I spend my day doing. I make the choices that other entities used to make for me,” Rene noted with a smile. “I was able to change my future because Primerica showed me I had the power to.”
This year’s AALC National Conference, the organization’s eleventh, was a record-breaker for the group. Not only did more than 5,000 Primerica representatives attend the business-building conference, but the group added to the $25,000 they donated to Haiti recovery efforts in 2010 by donating a whopping $20,000 more to World Water Relief in 2011.
Through their Eyes on Haiti campaign, the group solicited donations in exchange for Malibu glasses that representatives wore throughout the conference. AALC member and Primerica Senior National Sales Director Mike Evans explained their efforts, saying, “It’s time we took this event and created a movement to change the world for the better.”
There are already more than 8,000 tickets pre-sold for the 2012 AALC National Conference, forcing the group to relocate to an even larger location. Their charitable efforts will continue, organization leaders predict, and they hope that next year’s project will help even more people in need to know that they are not forgotten.
The AALC was created in 2000 to empower African Americans in Primerica with leadership and resources to establish a legacy of financial independence through entrepreneurship. Approximately 68 Primerica representatives make up the Council, which requires representatives to be in good standing with the company and have an annual income of at least $200,000 to join.
Nick & Becky Alise
Boynton Beach, FL Former Occupation: High School Teacher/Coach
When Nick & Becky Alise, of Boynton Beach, FL, first started building their Primerica business, they had no idea it would turn into a viable second career – or that their tiny start up would develop into a thriving, successful family business!
“I was a high school teacher and coach when I was introduced to the business,” recalls Nick. “We had a two year old and we needed extra money. I was already doing odds and ends part time but the Primerica Opportunity appealed to me because the company offered products I was very interested in as well as the chance to build something great.”
At the time, Primerica was only a year old so the Alises found themselves at the beginning of what would turn into an incredible, successful company. The longer they continued to build their business, the more excited they became – until they made it official and went full time in the business.
They set a great example of success for their new teammates and also for their daughter, Danielle – who eventually met and married another highly successful Primerica business builder, Omar Oropesa, of Miami Lakes, FL. “We were on a cruise sponsored by our uplines, Greg and Sharon Fitzpatrick – the Primerica reps directly above us in the business hierarchy,” recalls Nick. “Sharon told Becky that she thought Omar would be the perfect match for Danielle. Turns out she was right!”
Today, the Alises and Oropesas are enjoying the benefits of building a family business. They’re each building separate, successful organizations – but they’re doing it together. “Primerica is like any other business,” says Nick. “Just like a restaurant or a clothing store, it’s better when you’re in business with the people you care about.”
